R&D Testing

R&D (Research and Development) testing in California, according to the Department of Cannabis Control (DCC), is the process where cannabis and cannabis product samples are tested for quality and safety for the purpose of research and development. This type of testing is intended to provide valuable information for improvement, innovation, and compliance before sending products for mandatory quality assurance compliance testing.  It's important to note that while R&D testing results cannot be used to meet the state-required compliance testing, it allows cannabis businesses to ensure their products are safe and compliant before final batch testing, hence saving cost and reducing risk of failure.

Compliance Testing

Compliance testing according to the Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) in California is a mandatory testing process conducted by a licensed laboratory to ensure that all retail cannabis goods meet the state’s stringent standards for safety and quality. This testing involves checking the cannabis goods for harmful elements such as pesticides, heavy metals, microbial impurities, residual solvents or processing chemicals, and foreign materials. It also includes determining the cannabinoid content (such as THC and CBD levels) to verify their accuracy with product labeling. If cannabis goods pass the compliance testing, the laboratory will issue a certificate of analysis (COA). However, if the goods fail, they may be given an opportunity for re-testing or they may be destroyed, based on the specific circumstances and regulations.

Hemp Testing

Hemp testing in California refers to a regulatory practice conducted by laboratories that inspect industrial hemp

products for safety, potency, and compliance with state and federal guidelines. This process is important to ensure that

hemp products, which are derived from Cannabis sativa plants with a delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

concentration of not more than 0.3% on a dry weight basis, are within the legal limit and safe for use.

During hemp testing, a variety of aspects are analyzed, which can include: Potency, Contaminants, and Compliance.

Hemp testing is critically important in California for several reasons:  Consumer Safety,

Quality Assurance, Regulatory Compliance, Company Reputation, and Legal Compliance.

Booking a compliance sampler 24 hours in advance is important for several reasons: Scheduling: It allows Quality Testing Lab, to effectively plan and schedule our pick-ups and testing procedures. Logistics: There can be numerous pickups scheduled for a specific day. Extended Testing Time: Some tests may require a longer time to administer and accurately analyze. Early booking ensures that there's plentiful time for QTL Lab to perform all these tests accordingly. Avoid Delays: Booking in advance reduces the likelihood of potential delays. If QTL Lab receives last-minute requests, it can disrupt our schedule and lead to delays in sample collection, testing, and finally, the results.
